Toughened Safety Glass is up to five times stronger than ordinary glass of the same thickness. Because of this increased strength, it is specified within the Building Code to be used in a variety of demanding applications including shower glass, balustrades, doors, mirrors and pool fencing.
Toughened Glass is safety glass processed by controlled thermal treatment to increase its strength compared with standard annealed glass. Toughening puts the outer surfaces into compression and the inner surfaces into tension. Such stresses cause the glass, when broken, to crumble into small granular chunks instead of splintering into jagged shards.
